Born in Mexico City, 1974. Moved to San Miguel de Allende in 1992 and participated in art workshops at Bellas Artes and Instituto Allende before establishing his studio. Has shown his work both in Mexico and the US, including one man shows in New York, San Francisco, Napa Valley and Carmel as well as participated in several group shows in museums and art centers, amongst others, in Mexico City, Chicago and Oakland. Considering himself mostly a self taught artist, Alejandro Rivera-Leal works with oils and acrylics on complex images that are both beautiful and shocking, based on a timeless universe where past meets present. His ravaging female characters follow the path of our imagination, myths and dreams. His technique borrows from the Italian old masters but sustains the spirit of contemporary pop culture, never undermining the technological and social revolution the world has been a witness to.
