These two birds were designed by Mike Kleimo and made in clay by Edna Dickinson for the Aves y Agaves Auction, so they are unique pieces. They are made of porcelain clay and glazed with brilliant glossy red or orange glazes with a dash of black glaze for accent, then fired to high temperatures. They can go outside on the patio or garden, or inside. The legs and bill are made of iron by our local ironsmith. Since they are ceramic they are a little fragile and should be put in a safe place where they can't be knocked.
Mike Kleimo is a graphic designer and paints scenes of San Miguel and the surrounding campo. His medium is watercolour and his work can be found in San Miguel in the Generator Gallery; Magenta Gallery and Galeria Izamal. Edna works in ceramics and has work in gallery Reloj 46 and the Generator Gallery. They have lived and worked in San Miguel for six years.
